Operation Read

With this in mind this coming fall, October 1-16, 2009, we are planning to host a read-a-thon in South Halton public and Catholic elementary schools.  The proceeds of Operation READ will go towards ensuring that support and services will continue to be available to all who are in need.  As of right now many families are struggling, unaware that help and support is available.  Not only will Operation READ help raise money to support Learning Disabilities services, it will also aid in the promotion of proper literacy skills by encouraging participants to practice daily reading. 

Our overall goals for the Operation Read fundraising initiative are:

• To raise $10,000 for general operating funds, course expansion, updated technology, additional educational materials and literature  
• Increase understanding and awareness of learning disabilities and the support and guidance provided by the association  
•  To raise awareness about effective literacy strategies for struggling readers  
•  To increase new membership and volunteer base of the association
