As licensed psychologists, Dr. John, Pires and Van Blyderveen provide a wide range of psychological services.  All services are offered in a confidential and welcoming environment with every effort make to ensure you receive the best care.  Services include:

  • Treatment: One-to-one individual psychotherapy, family therapy, couples/marital therapy and group therapy
  • Assessment: Psychoeducational Assessments ( e.g. learning disabilities, giftedness testing) and Psychodiagnostic Assessments.
  • Consultation:  For families and professionals
  • Education: Workshops and in-services on topics of general interest to the public ( e.g. parenting seminars)

Halton Psychological Services provides services for the general public.  Services are offered for all ages, including children, adolescents and adults.

Additional Cost Information: 

All fees for therapy, assessment, and consultation services are based on the recommended guidelines of the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA).  Psychological services are not currently covered by OHIP.  However, many insurance plans provide some coverage, as do many benefit packages provided by employers. 

Training Experience: 

Dr Paulo Pires, Ph.D., C. Psych received his Ph.d in Clinical Child and School Psychology from OISE/University of Toronto and is registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.  He is currently a Staff Psychologist in the Child and Youth Mental Health Program at McMaster Children's Hospital and is an Assistant Professor ( Part-time) in the Department of Psychiatry and Behaviuoral Neurosciences at McMaster University.  Dr. Pires has a part-time private practice and has previously worked for the Toronto Catholic Distrcit School Board for several years.  His main interests include psychoeducational assessment and the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with anxiety problems ( including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), mood disorders, learning disabilities, disruptive behaviours and parenting/family difficulties.

Dr Shona John, Ph.D., C. Psych, received her Ph.D in Clinical Child and School Psychology from the OISE/University of Toronto and is registered with The College of Psychologists of Ontario.  Along with her part-time private practice, Dr. John is a Staff Psychologist for the Trillium Health Centre, Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service.  Her previous experiences include a variety of hospital, community mental health and school settings including: Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto Catholic and Peel District School Boards.  Her main interests include psychoeducational assessment and the assessment and treatment of children and adolescnets with anxiety problems ( including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Selective Mutism), mood disorders, learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and behaviour problems.

Dr. Sherry Van Blyderveen, Ph.D, C. Psych,  received her Ph.D in Clinical Psychologoy from Simon Fraser University and is registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.  Along with her part-time private practice, Dr. Van Blyderveen is currently a Staff Psychologist iwth the Pediatric Eating Disorder at McMaster University.  Her previous experiences include a variety of hospital, community mental health, private practice and correctional settings.  Her main interests include the treatment of adults, adolescents and children with anxiety problems ( including Selective Mutism and Post Traumatic Stress Disroder) and mood disorders.  Dr. Van Blyderveen also provides marital and family therapy.
